School visits typically last two hours and can be tailored to suit the needs of your group.
Facilitated visits
A facilitated visit is divided into two parts:
- Taught session: A one-hour session led by our learning team. Students will have the opportunity to handle museum specimens and take part in engaging, object-based activities.
- Museum exploration: The remaining hour can be used to explore the museum independently. We can provide a self-guided trail to help students make the most of this part of their visit. The ideal group size for a taught session is around 30 students. For larger groups, we also have a lecture theatre with capacity for up to 250 students.
Self-guided visits
Self-guided school groups are very welcome. We can provide a self-guided trail to support your visit and help you explore the museum at your own pace. You can also book a short handling session as an introduction to your self-guided visit, giving students the opportunity to engage with museum specimens before exploring the galleries.
Bespoke visits
If you have an idea for a visit but cannot find a session that meets your needs, please get in touch. We can recommend a suitable session or work with you to create a bespoke resource for your group.
